eBay Auction Strategies for Starting and Ending an Auction

February 24th, 2007 by admin

Most of the times, eBay auctions sellers gets either half or even their only bids when their auction is about to close. One of the big auction problems is figuring out when is the best time to list your auctions. Ebay auction sellers must determine which days are best. Which hours will draw the most viewers and even potential buyers? If you want your item to sell for a good price, then, it makes no sense to let it finish on a day and time when no one is there to buy. Here are a few pointers.

If your auction is geared to selling to residential customers, then you need to post your listings when most of potential buyers are home, rested, and motivated to buy. Think about it. When would be a best time for buy something online? When do you usually do your eBay auction searches? If you watch when eBay Powersellers list their items, you will see that the best time to catch a home customer is on a weekend, more specifically Sunday evenings.

If your eBay auction is for selling to businesses, then you need to figure out the business hours for all your targeted companies in your niche. Obvously your auctions must finish between 9am and 5pm on weekdays. Another point to mention is to try to avoid mornings. Try out a few test auctions so that you will be able to study the buying behaviour of all your potential buyers in your niche market.

Another question to answer is how long must you list your auctions. Follow these guidelines. For potential home buyers, best results for maxium profits will be for your auctions to last for 3 days. It would be better if your focus your listings on the weekends with a ending time on a Sunday night.

For business auctions, a day listing ending on a Satureday is bad because most people will be home doing other things. Auctions that last for 3, 5, 7 or even 10 days would be alright because no matter which days you posted your listings, your auction will end on a weekday during regular business hours.

So in order to answer the all important question as to when to list your auctions and how long must your have your postings all depends on which potential market are you targeting. The 2 mentioned were residential and business customers. Doing research on each group’s buying habits will lead eBay auction sellers on to the road to success with huge amount of traffic to your auctions. Best of luck to you all and to your success.
